NU 501 - Nursing Informatics


Builds knowledge and skills essential for the use of computerized systems as tools in nursing and health care. Course content includes application of information technology in nursing practice, education, and administration with emphasis on accessing and evaluating available resources, computer use in organizing and manipulating information, and use of technology in teaching-learning environments.

Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to do the following:

  • Integrates informatics and organizational theory into technology applications to support the provision of  culturally humble and high quality nursing care, (MSN Essentials I, V)
  • Analyze current and emerging technologies to support safe practice environments, and to optimize patient safety, cost-effectiveness, and health outcomes.(MSN Essentials III, V)
  • Use information and communication technologies, resources, and principles of learning to teach patients and others.(MSN Essential V, VII)
