EH 227 - Maine Literature (SR)


Credits: 4 credits

This course examines the rich and varied traditions of Maine Literature, with a particular focus on ethical and political issues (e.g. marginalization, social justice, sustainability, radical hospitality) in, and surrounding, Maine Literature and its criticism. Students engage with a broad range of texts, both canonical and non-canonical, in order to gain a better understanding of Maine writers and their works.

This is a Sustainability-Related (SR)   Course.

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Analyze and interpret Maine literature, including its purpose, method, and ethical/moral dimensions;
  2. Conduct literary research using a variety of critical perspectives and apply that research to both written and oral communications 
  3. Describe and discuss Maine literature;
  4. Identify, describe, and discuss ethical and political issues in, and surrounding, Maine literature and its criticism, an
  5. Demonstrate good communication skills, revealed in both writing and speaking.
