MG 324 - Total Workplace Rewards: Compensation & Benefits


Credits: (4 credits)

This course explores strategic and tactical considerations in the development, implementation and management of employee total rewards including financial and non financial compensation and benefit systems.  Students will examine the design and execution of compensation systems and strategies, with a focus on base pay systems and an introduction to incentive pay systems. We also explore the design and execution of benefits systems and strategies, with a focus on healthcare strategies including wellness programs, voluntary and ancillary benefits plans, and retirement plans.  This course will provide students with a fundamental level of knowledge and skills needed to evaluate employer employment offers, manage employee total rewards in either a managerial or human resources role.

 Learning Objectives:

  • Develop knowledge of benefits and compensation program’s impact on the individual employee and the competitive advantages of well designed plans.

  • Develop skills needed to analyze compensation and benefits issues within a number of contexts, including financial, legal, operational, ethical and cultural.

  • Apply knowledge via several real world case scenarios.

  • Analyze the impact of the legislative environment when making benefits and compensation decisions or designing programs.

  • Evaluate and assess equity issues as they relate to total rewards, specifically fair pay practices.
