TH 550 - Foundations in Catholic Theology


This course, which is the ordinary first course for the graduate Theology programs, introduces the beginning student to the fundamental dimensions and parameters of Catholic doctrine and theology as outlined and summarized in the Creeds of the Church, particularly the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed, which are rooted in the teaching of the early Church and in the writings of the New Testament.

Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Explain the relationship between Divine Revelation and the Creeds.
  2. Explain the Creeds’ teaching on the Father.
  3. Explain the Creeds’ teaching on the Son
  4. Explain the Creeds’ teaching on the Holy Spirit.
  5. Explain how the Creeds fundamentally affirm the mystery of the Trinity.
  6. Explain the Creeds’ teaching on the Church
  7. Explain the Creeds’ teaching on Resurrection and eternal life.
