TH 104 - Introduction to the Old Testament


An introduction to the historical and religious background of the texts of the Old Testament and to the study of the methods of interpretation, and a survey of the books and significant passages of the Old Testament.

Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, learners should be able to:

  • Identify the tri-part structures of the Old Testament (Hebrew Bible), the significant books which comprise them, and the major theological themes that each part promotes; 

  • summarize the basic narrative history of the Old Testament (Hebrew Bible);

  • analyze significant passages and books of the Old Testament (Hebrew Bible) in light of their original, historical contexts; and

  • demonstrate the application of various Old Testament passages to the New Testament and/or modern-day contexts
