SO 206 - Forensic Psychology


Credits: (4 credits)

Examines the role of psychology in the criminal justice system.  Topics include police stress management, criminal psychology, correctional treatment, insanity defense, family court, and the psychology of victims.

Prerequisite:  None

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to do the following:
 

  1. Identify the roles of the psychologist within the criminal justice system
  2. Describe the intersection between psychology and the criminal justice system, specifically:  insanity defense, competency, domestic violence, psychology of sexual assault, rehabilitation and community corrections, police stress, witness testimony, lie detection, and interrogation and confessions
  3. Identify mental health issues that affect the criminal justice system
  4. Present in an oral and/or written form fundamental psychological concepts and principles related to the criminal justice system


Frequency of Offering:
Once every other year in the fall depending on demand and enrollment trends
