TH 530 - Christology


At the heart of the Christian faith is the conviction that Jesus of Nazareth is the definitive self-revelation of the Triune God and the ultimate salvation of mankind and all created reality. Christology is the branch of theological investigation that studies in a systematic way the mystery of Christ. Based on the Sources of Revelation and the history of Christ, Doctrine and Theology, Christology seeks to understand the person of Christ and his Mission of Revelation and Salvation. It endeavors to discover the “who” Christ is and “what” he has done as the ultimate Word of God about God and the ultimate Word of God about mankind.

Course Learning Objectives
  • Identify the biblical roots of Christology
  • Appreciate the development of Christological thought during the Apostolic Period
  • Identify the issues at hand and Christological conclusions reached at the early Ecumenical Councils
  • Identify the major developments of Christology in the Patristic, Medieval, and Reformation eras
  • Respond to issues raised in contemporary Christology
  • Reflect theologically on the passion, death and resurrection of Christ
