NU 300 - Professional Transitions


The course provides an overview of contemporary professional nursing practice with a focus on developing reflective practice through developing and utilizing critical thinking and decision-making skills. The course draws from present literature relating to critical thinking and decision making within complex health care situations. Students are encouraged to develop and keep a reflective diary throughout the course, drawing from class content, readings, and clinical scenarios to apply reflective frameworks to better understand their contribution and involvement in practice.

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to do the following:

  • Incorporate effective communication techniques, including negotiation and conflict resolution to produce positive professional working relationships (AACN VI, 3).

  • Demonstrate appropriate team building and collaborative strategies when working with interprofessional teams (AACN IV, 5).
