NP 601 - Advanced Physical Health Assessment

This course provides the student advanced practice nurse with the tools to perform a comprehensive health assessment on patients throughout the lifespan. The course builds on knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and health assessment skills previously attained in undergraduate nursing education.

The major focus of this course is to ensure that the student has the ability to perform a high quality health history, review of systems, and head-to-toe comprehensive physical exam, and is able to communicate that information in both written and oral form to members of the multi-disciplinary health care team.

A 45 hour facilitated Comprehensive Health Assessment Practice Experience (CHAPE) is a required component of NP 601. Facilitated CHAPE in the Master of Science in Nursing Family Nurse Practitioner program are experiences which provide students with opportunities for expert guided learning and application of NP 601 Advanced Physical Health Assessment course content in facilitated CHAPE settings. The CHAPE experience consists of 45 hours of facilitated patient contact in an approved clinical setting. NP601 course assignments guide the student in the application of course content in the CHAPE setting.

Prerequisites & Notes

In addition, prior to starting this course, the student must obtain a clinical site and on-site facilitator to log the 45 patient contact hours required in Comprehensive Health Assessment Practice Experience (CHAPE) in this course.
