TH 555 - Introduction to the Old Testament


An introduction to the books, and significant passages, of the Old Testament, to the historical and religious background of its text, to the study of the methods of its interpretation, and to Catholic teaching on the relationship of the Old testament to the New Testament.

Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to do the following: 1. Recognize the literature of the Old Testament, and have read significant books and passages of the Old Testament. 2. Explain the religions and history of ancient Israel that are reflected in the Old Testament. 3. Describe the ways that the canon of the Old Testament is joined with the New Testament as The Bible. 4. Explore further the ways in which the Old Testament has been and is used as Scripture within the Catholic community. 5. Be prepared to take TH 520 Introduction to the New Testament.
