Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to do the following: 

  • Define, compare, and contrast the unique perspective of pastoral counseling in relationship to traditional counseling strategies. 
  • Have examined the meaning of personal faith struggle, the stages of faith, and ministry development, both personally and professionally. 
  • Name, articulate, and respond appropriately to feelings involved in the pastoral counseling process. 
  • Understand the spiritual issues involved in the multiple dimensions of addiction and relationship issues. 
  • Understand strategies for working with the pastoral counseling dimensions of loss and grieving, transition, depression, and other issues. 
  • Understand issues of shame, grace, reconciliation, and forgiveness in pastoral counseling and spiritual healing. 
  • Have reflected upon your leadership style in group counseling. 
  • Understand some of the unique gender-related issues of women that may occur within the pastoral counseling context. 
  • Recognize the important difference between one’s own issues and those of the pastoral client and be able to separate them.
