Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to do the following: 

• Demonstrate a sound process to address clinical decision-making and reasoning while incorporating pharmacotherapeutics into advanced clinical nursing practice. 
• Integrate pathophysiology, physiology, and pharmacotherapeutics within a systematic approach to clinical management within various organ systems. 
• Understand the role and responsibility of the advanced practice nurse in prescribing and managing pharmacological therapy. 
• Articulate differences in pharmacotherapeutics and pharmacogenomics in diverse patient populations and cultures. 
• Explain clinical-reasoning strategies while articulating concepts of pharmacotherapeutics, pharmacoeconomics, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics. 
• Integrate knowledge of over-the-counter medications, vitamins, minerals, and complementary and alternative medicine in clinical practice. 
• Recognize and address issues of substance abuse (both prescription and illicit drugs) into safe clinical practice. 
• Discuss the need for community resources, patient education, and adherence to therapy within various cultures. 
• Write a prescription correctly with appropriate elements while recognizing the accountability, responsibility, and scope of practice. 
• Recognize generic and brand names of medications, classes of drugs, side effects, drug interactions, efficacy parameters, pregnancy and lactation categorization, and indications of drugs.
