Marine Science B.S.

The Marine Science major guides students through investigations of the geological, physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of ocean systems as well as training them on the fresh waters of Maine. There is a heavy emphasis on field work ensuring that students spend ample time learning the discipline in stimulating locations—the rocky coast, mudflats, estuaries, the sea floor, even the open waters of the Gulf of Maine.

Completing this degree program will provide students with:

  • Scientific literacy/competencyUnderstanding the scientific method, scientific investigation, mastery of content
  • Intellectual curiosity/creativity/resourcefulness
  • Methodological competence: Graduated independence/self-directed study
  • Written and oral communication, interpersonal communication skills

In addition, all students must fulfill the college’s core curriculum  requirements and meet the 128 credit graduation requirement.  The First Year Experience (FYE) Seminar  is a requirement for all first-year students.
