Graduate Certificate in Ministry to Black Catholics

The Graduate Certificate in Ministry to Black Catholics applies to those who are involved with or interested in pastoral ministry and religious education among Black Catholics, especially those communities that are largely African-American.

This certificate can be a stepping stone towards the M.A. in Theology, as all credits earned may be applied to the degree program.  Faithful to the magisterium, our courses are designed to foster intellectual engagement in the scholarly pursuit of truth.

 

Program Highlights

  • This program professes fidelity to the teachings of Jesus Christ and the doctrine and heritage of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • The curriculum provides a theological education for those who seek to serve the needs of the Catholic Church and society.
  • Students develop an understanding and appreciation of the Catholic faith with a specific emphasis on the history and cultural diversity and contributions of Black Catholics in the United States.
  • The certificate contributes to the development of leadership among Black Catholics within and for the Church.
  • This program provides competency in ministry, with an appropriate credential.
  • Completion of the Certificate can be a stepping stone toward a degree.
  • Optional residential summer session allows students to accelerate completion of the certificate.

  • TH 550 Foundations in Catholic Theology
  • TH 520 Introduction to the New Testament
  • TH 505 Foundations of Moral Theology
  • TH 580 Theology of the Sacraments
  • TH 572 Ministry in the Multicultural Church in America
  • TH 613 History of Black Catholics in the Church
  • TH 614 Pastoral Leadership among Black Catholics

 

Admission Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in any subject area.
