NU 418 - Advanced Maternity and Pediatrics Senior Elective


Credits: 3 credits

Advanced Maternity and Pediatrics Senior Elective is designed for students who have an interest in either of these specialties in nursing, The coursse will encompass reviewing professional articles in these specialty areas. Classes will include a more in depth investigation into Pediatrics and Maternal / Newborn nursing. Career explorartion in these areas and maintaining professional practice will be discussed. This elective is structured to explore these specialty nursing areas and the issues within them.

Prerequisite:  NU390

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Analyze and present recent articles relating to Pediatrics and Maternity.
  2. Develop and run a simulation in Pediatrics or Maternity for junior students.
  3. Demonstrate self-inquiry by participation in class discussions and development of simulation.
  4. Discuss cultural influences in Maternal and Pediatric nursing care around the globe,.
  5. Explore career options in Pediatric and Maternity nursing.
