PH 306 - Philosophy of Mind


Credits: (4 credits)


Students will study important issues in the philosophy of mind.  Topics include the relationship between mind and body, the problem of other minds, the nature of consciousness, inter-subjectivity, the relationship between philosophy and neuroscience, the tole of first-person experience in cognition, and the nature of the self.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to do the following:
 

  1. Summarize key terms and concepts in the philosophy mind.
  2. Identify implications of major philosophical theories concerning the mind.
  3. Demonstrate critical thinking and reading skills.
  4. Demonstrate an ability to communicate and rationally defend positions on theories related to the philosophy of mind in writing.
  5. Respectfully analyze various positions on issues connected with the philosophy of mind.
