TH 550 - Foundations in Catholic Theology


This course will establish a solid foundation for the graduate study of theology. It will introduce the student to the major historical eras and pivotal players of the Church throughout history, culminating in an assessment of the landscape of contemporary Catholic theology. Included in the course is instruction in academic research and MLA citation practices.

Course Learning Objectives
  • Identify the seminal works of Catholic theology
  • Identify pivotal players of the Catholic Tradition
  • Recognize key theological issues in each historical period
  • Identify the various areas of study within Catholic theology
  • Employ a prayerful method of theological inquiry that demonstrates the relationship between faith and reason
  • Practice MLA citation style.
