SL 325 - Senior Living Environmental Design


Leaders in Senior Living are frequently challenged to participate in new construction or remodeling projects.  Proper planning requires an understanding of the needs and desires of today’s and tomorrow’s senior population.  This course will introduce the student to trends in the field of Senior Living environments.  The challenges of remodeling existing structures will be explored, including adaptable design for those who face diminished physical functioning.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Explain the unique housing needs and desires sought by seniors
  • Assess the environment for adaptations required by a resident with physical disabilities and/or continuing physical decline
  • Discuss options for financing construction or remodeling projects
  • Blend beauty, enjoyment, comfort, and function in a Senior Living environment
