TH 615 - Mariology


Mary’s role in salvation history in its Trinitarian foundation will be studied from the perspective of Scripture, the Church Fathers, spiritual writers, Vatican II, popular piety, ecumenism, and the four Marian Dogmas.

Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to do the following:

  • Explain the major historical phases in the development of Marian dogma.
  • Understand the biblical foundations of mariology, especially the Gospels
  • Recognize Mary’s significance through the study of her role as wife and mother by examining christological dogmas and Patristic writings on St. Joseph..
  • Articulate Mary’s role in salvation history.
  • Identify key Marian writers.
  • Discuss the significance of Marian devotion for the life of the church.
