TH 585 - Worship: History and Ritual


This course explores the history and theology of Christian worship, beginning with its Jewish antecedents and to the contemporary era.  It studies the nature and principles of Christian worship and examines the great Christian signs and symbols and the importance of the role of ritual in the life of Christian celebration.  The course gives special attention to the fundamental Christian rites, such as initiation and the sacred meal, and deals with the pastoral implementation of worship principles in planning and conducting creative worship services for occasions such as Advent, Christmas, Lent, Holy Week, Easter, and Pentecost.
